COVID-19 has taken all of us by surprise, exposing the cracks in many small business marketing plans and threatening to keep the doors closed long after stay-at-home orders have been lifted. But there are three things you can do right now to help give your brand a boost.
Wait – What Went Wrong?
For too long, small business owners have relied solely on word-of-mouth and foot traffic to carry their brand message. A reluctance to learn about the power of social media and little knowledge about PR pitching has further weakened some businesses already crushed by the coronavirus. Websites have been neglected, contact lists are old and outdated – some businesses never even bothered to launch social media pages or build customer contact lists … Sound familiar?
Luckily – It’s Not Too Late
Even if your business is suffering right now – there are still a few things you can do to bring your brand back to life. Here, three things you can do, starting today, to give your business a boost.
Update Social Media Profiles: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, the list goes on – how are you connecting with your clients and customers in these chaotic times? Wherever your ideal prospects are likely to post is where you want to be! Update your social media profiles, include videos and images of your products, remind followers about your services, post testimonials from current customers, and spread the love by sharing messages of hope and inspiration with visitors to your page. The point – just post! If your products and services are available online, remember to include a call to action and drive traffic to your website.
Clean Up Your CRM: No matter how popular Facebook is, some people will never get on board with social media. However, nearly everyone in your network uses email. In fact, 3.9 billion people worldwide use email to communicate regularly. Are you using email to reach customers and clients in your pipeline? When’s the last time you looked at your contact list? Here’s some good news: if you haven’t cleaned up your CRM software in a while, you can do it today. More good news: if you don’t have CRM software, there are many easy-to-use free options to choose from. Start building your contact list and deliver messages that actually make it to the intended target. Create a customer list, update it often, and give your contacts content they care about.
Say Something: Now that you’ve cleaned up both your social media accounts and your CRM software, it’s time to SAY SOMETHING! Long or short form, it doesn’t matter – just share your message. Offering free shipping on your customers’ preferred products? Tell them. Offering online coaching lessons through Zoom or Facebook Messenger Chat? Email your clients to let them know. The goal is to get in front of your followers. If you want to stay top-of-mind in turbulent times, you have to try something new.
These are scary times for many mom-and-pop shops. But remember, it’s small business that stimulates the local economy. Rise up, get in the game, and be willing to do something you’ve never done in order to keep your business from closing its doors for good.
